Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Koropi
W.A.T.T.’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Koropi, the only waste treatment plant in the whole of Eastern Attica and the most modern in Greece, has been operating since 2010 and serves the needs of 30 Municipalities of Attica.
The facilities are equipped with the most modern technology of mechanical packaging, commercial and industrial waste treatment, with a processing capacity of 20 tons/ hour. The specialized mechanical equipment in combination with the large capacity of the unit, ensure the achievement of high purity in the products, while the use of innovations in the design allows it to adapt the production process to the peculiarities of the Greek reality regarding the separation of recyclable waste.
The MRF of the Municipality of Kropia contributes to Greece’s effort to transition into a more circular economy. In collaboration with the Department of Chemistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, it receives and processes 10,000 tons of pre-selected biowaste, coming from the Municipality of Vari – Voula – Vouliagmeni. As a result of this cooperation, the unit can produce 2 types of excellent quality compost, VITA Green and VITA Green Plus products.
This is the most typical example of a circular economy at a local government level, with the 100% utilization of a Municipality’s biowaste, providing the possibility of using the end products in the rapidly growing market of organic agriculture.
